Liverpool should expect a test when they face Leicester City this evening, according to Steve McManaman, who insists a second straight win could have Brendan Rodgers' side looking upward.

The Reds ended a frustrating run of five fixtures without victory on Saturday when Glen Johnson's brave, late header in front of the Kop broke through the resolve of Stoke City at Anfield.

A busy week in the Barclays Premier League means the squad were quickly on their travels again yesterday, making their way to the home of the team currently sitting bottom of the table.

Nigel Pearson's charges have endured a disappointing period since sensationally beating Manchester United 5-3 at the King Power Stadium, losing six times and drawing twice in eight encounters.

Nevertheless, McManaman warned that Rodgers and his Reds must be at their best and explained how, if they are, the game could maintain the momentum kickstarted by Saturday's home win.

"This is going to be a test for Liverpool," he said. "You normally get a really good atmosphere at Leicester games. Against these newly-promoted teams and in the tight-knit grounds, the fans get right behind them.

"This is one of the games that Leicester City fans will have been looking forward to the most, along with the visits of Manchester United and Chelsea. They lost the other day and will be counting on their home games this season.

"So tonight is going to be a big test for Liverpool. They have had a lot of games in a short space of time and it is going to be interesting to see how they respond. If they win, then all of a sudden people are starting to look up again.

"Liverpool lost their last away game in the Premier League and it was arguably their worst performance of the season. But a win here and a little run of form can see them quickly climb the table."
