Jack Dunn fired a penalty as Liverpool U21s beat Birmingham City 2-0 in a friendly encounter at the Kirkby Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

Without a league match until a trip to Norwich City on December 17, Michael Beale has arranged a series of friendly games to keep his side ticking over.

Birmingham provided good opposition for the young Reds and they fielded striker Nikola Zigic, who was making his return from injury.

Dunn, who made his first appearance of the season in the last friendly outing against Burnley, stepped up his fitness with an impressive outing against Birmingham.

The Scouser opened the scoring from the penalty spot, and in a game that saw Beale field several trialists, one of them - Emmanuel Otieggigba - netted the second goal.

Beale also used the likes of Jordan Rossiter, Jordan Williams, Daniel Trickett-Smith and Kevin Stewart, while Lawrence Vigouroux enjoyed an outing between the posts.
