Although a win for the team is always his main priority, Jordan Henderson admitted he wants to continue to provide goals for Liverpool after capping a 3-1 result against Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Teed up by a sublime Raheem Sterling backheel, the vice-captain gratefully received the opportunity to dispatch a finish into the roof of the net and ensure that the Reds would return to Merseyside with another three points.

Much had happened before then, with preceding strikes by Adam Lallana and Steven Gerrard required in response to an unfortunate Simon Mignolet own goal that had been forced by Leonardo Ulloa's near-post blast.

The hosts were also reduced to 10 men when Wes Morgan was dismissed for hauling down Rickie Lambert as the No.9 threatened to run clear, before the final whistle confirmed a second consecutive victory for Brendan Rodgers' side.

Collective success was and is paramount to Henderson but following on from a well-taken goal at Ludogorets Razgrad last week, the midfielder agreed that providing a regular threat is among his individual targets.

"It's always nice to get on the scoresheet, but the most important thing - as I always say - is winning games," he explained to Liverpoolfc.com from the Foxes' King Power Stadium.

"It doesn't matter who scores as long as we're winning. But, from a personal point of view, it is nice to get on the scoresheet and hopefully I can contribute more for the team.

"When you come to Leicester they are going to make it difficult for us as a team, so the most important thing is that you win your individual battle and collectively as a team you have got to work as hard as you possibly can.

"Then, with the quality we have got in the final third, go and hurt them when we got the opportunity. I thought it was a good performance, especially in the second half."

With Gerrard the engine - 'another captain's performance', according to Henderson - Liverpool assumed control in the second period against Leicester and perhaps could have added further to the scoresheet.

In addition to the natural confidence boost felt by winning, the result maintained the fledgling momentum founded by the determined 1-0 victory over Stoke City at Anfield last Saturday.

Henderson and co will soon be back at their home ground, with his former club Sunderland the visitors to L4 this weekend, and the 24-year-old outlined why a third consecutive Barclays Premier League success is crucial.

He said: "It would be massive for us - to be getting nine points from the week is the target. Sunderland are a good side, they got a good result against Chelsea the other day, so it will be a difficult game.

"But one that we can go into with a lot of confidence, keep working like we have been and hopefully on the day we can get the three points. When you win games it's always a confidence boost and everybody is high on confidence.

"But, at the same time, we know we have got a long way to where we want to get to. We need to keep working as hard as we possibly can - like we have been - and hopefully the results keep coming.

"We're a close group. We had a difficult time after Palace, but we've stuck together really well - working really well on the training field, as hard as we can.

"You can see that in the games. We're working for each other right until the end and getting our rewards. We've got to keep that going for as long as possible."
