In pictures: 10 years on from Olympiacos
On this day 10 years ago, one of the most dramatic Anfield European nights unfolded as Steven Gerrard hit a late, stunning strike to down Olympiacos and bedlam ensued on the Kop.
With the scores locked at 2-1 and the Reds needing to win by two clear goals to progress from the group stage, Neil Mellor rose to greet Jamie Carragher's cross in the 86th minute and Anfield held its breath.
The ground had been shaking from side to side with sheer passion for the best part of 40 minutes, but suddenly everything seemed to grind to a standstill.
Mellor rose. The ball glanced the top of his head and flew into the path of Gerrard, who had already drawn back his famous right boot, ready to write history.
The captain drilled home. Pandemonium ensued in the stands and Gerrard raced across the floodlight turf, eyes blazing, taking swipes with clenched fists at thin December air.

December 8, 2004 is a night that will forever be remembered by any Kopite who was privileged enough to witness it.
Liverpool, back in the Champions League after a year's absence, were on the cusp of elimination from the group stages at the hands of Olympiacos.
The fans who packed into Anfield knew a win by two clear goals was necessary if Liverpool were to progress, and so when the legendary Rivaldo arced a free-kick beyond Chris Kirkland in the 26th minute, it was mission impossible.
Rafael Benitez introduced Florent Sinama-Pongolle at half-time - and the Frenchman scored within two minutes of the interval to give Liverpool a lifeline. But with little more than 10 minutes left on the clock, the Reds found themselves still without the requisite two clear goals.
Benitez ordered Mellor to warm up, replace Milan Baros and two minutes later, the young Scouser had pounced to reduce the arrears in front of a frantic Kop.
Their quest was complete when Gerrard raced onto Mellor's knock-down, arrowed the ball home in the 86th minute and Liverpool were through to the next round of the competition.
