Dejan Lovren is confident that Liverpool can make it another European night to remember by responding to the noise of Anfield when they host FC Basel in the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers' charges face a must-win encounter with the Swiss outfit if they are to claim second place in Group B and join Real Madrid in the next stage of the elite competition.

The Reds will be backed all the way by a capacity crowd on home turf tonight, coming together in an attempt to recreate the kind of occasion witnessed on many occasions at the famous stadium.

"It is massive for us and, of course, important - we need to win, but it will be a difficult game," Lovren told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I know we lost 1-0 away to Basel but it won't be easy for them at Anfield and we can achieve big things with the support of the Kop. We can't wait for the game.

"They are a quality team with quality individual players, but we created a lot of opportunities in Basel and didn't score.

"I am sure we will score at Anfield on Tuesday night because we know we need to win. I'm confident in our team and our fans. We can do it."

Lovren has recently had to settle for a place on the bench, with Kolo Toure coming in alongside Martin Skrtel at the centre of the defence, but he pledged to battle hard to reclaim a starting berth.

He added: "I knew when I came here it would be tough competition and nobody is assured of a place in the team.

"I'm working hard and giving it 100 per cent every time I step out onto the pitch and in training. My job is to be ready when the manager needs me."
