Peter Crouch's sensational acrobatic volley against Galatasaray exhilarated the Kop in September 2006 and the former Liverpool striker's stunning effort has now been voted one of the 10 best goals in UEFA history.

Few could possibly have predicted what was about to occur when Steve Finnan attacked the visitors' territory along the right flank and delivered an inviting but awkward cross into the penalty area for his teammate.

Crouch, a fan favourite during his three years with the Reds, contorted his body to meet the assist with a connection of the finest technique, hammering the ball into the bottom corner to register a moment that would be remembered forever.

The effort was recently included in a list of goals considered to be the greatest in the history of competitions overseen by European football's governing body, to mark the organisation's 60th anniversary this year.

Fans were invited to select their favourites in an online poll and Crouch's was among those most selected, alongside the likes of Marco van Basten, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane.

So, how better to celebrate than by reliving the stunner now by watching the free video below?
