Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool can take confidence from the number of clear opportunities they created in defeat at the weekend, but stressed that his players simply have to start finding the target when they tackle Bournemouth tomorrow night.

The Reds were frustratingly overturned 3-0 by rivals Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday despite registering more shots overall and a greater number of efforts on target than their foes at Old Trafford.

Raheem Sterling could have put the travellers in front mere seconds before Wayne Rooney broke the deadlock, and Rodgers' team were repeatedly thwarted by goalkeeper David De Gea as strikes by Juan Mata and Robin van Persie earned the hosts three points.

The manager therefore wants to witness an improvement in finishing from his side, beginning with the Capital One Cup quarter-final against in-form Championship outfit Bournemouth on Wednesday evening.

"The confidence wasn't lacking in the players," Rodgers reflected to Liverpoolfc.com immediately after the final whistle was blown in Manchester.

"To have the sort of invention in our game to create so many chances, you can see that the players are still very much working hard. But we haven't scored enough goals and when you don't score enough, it puts a lot of pressure on you.

"If you look at our record over the last 10 or 11 games, we haven't scored in a lot of them. We've got to keep working, stay focused and make sure the group stays together, then take the confidence from our creativity into the game."
