Liverpool Ladies today announced that goalkeeper Danielle Gibbons has agreed a new contract with the club.

The Reds have secured the services of the stopper, who last year challenged American custodian Libby Stout for the coveted No.1 spot.

The 22-year-old joined the reigning Women's Super League champions from Preston North End in 2011 and has previously represented England at U19 and U23 level.

On signing a new deal with the Reds, Gibbons said: "I'm really pleased to have committed my future to Liverpool Ladies.

"Last year was a fantastic season for the club as we retained the WSL title and entered the UEFA Women's Champions League for the first time ever.

"I'm really looking forward to the challenge of competing with Libby Stout for the No.1 spot again this season.

"Libby was outstanding last season and deservedly won Players' Player of the Year, so I know it will be a difficult task dislodging Libby but it is one I am looking forward to."

Ladies manager Matt Beard said: "We are really fortunate at Liverpool to have two fantastic goalkeepers in Danielle and Libby Stout.

"Although Libby played most of the matches last season, Danielle was needed for certain matches and was absolutely brilliant.

"I think having two top-class goalkeepers really helps a football team, as they continuously push one another on a daily basis. This is yet another important signing by the club."
