Liverpool Ladies captain Gemma Bonner today signed a new contract with the club and immediately set her sights on more silverware in the years to come.

The defender was an integral part of the Reds' back-to-back Women's Super League title triumphs in the past two seasons with a series of commanding displays.

With her future committed to the Ladies and more Women's Champions League football to come, the 23-year-old is excited for what lies ahead with Matt Beard's side.

Gemma, how pleased are you to sign a new deal?

I'm absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract with Liverpool Ladies. I feel as though I have really developed as a player since I joined the club in 2012. Once I sat down with the club to discuss a new contract and heard their ambitions, it was an easy decision for me to make.

What does playing for this club mean to you?

When I was growing up I always supported Liverpool, so to be able to play for the club is a dream come true. To also be the captain is a massive honour and one that I take great pride in. Winning silverware with Liverpool is a special feeling, and hopefully I am able to lead this team to many more trophies.

After captaining the side to successive titles, did that make the decision to stay easier?

To win back-to-back Women's Super League titles shows the great progress that the club has made in the last couple of seasons and, as I said, I hope I am able to win many more trophies with Liverpool Ladies. Being able to play UEFA Women's Champions League football again was also a big incentive to commit my future to the club.

What does the immediate future hold for you and Liverpool Ladies?

I'm hugely excited for the future of the team as we have a great squad with a fantastic team spirit. To win the league title is a huge achievement, but to be able to retain the league is an even bigger achievement and I have no doubt that we can win many more trophies over the next few seasons.

There have also been a number of other players signed up in recent weeks. How important was it to retain the majority of the squad who were part of the recent success?

To be able to keep the likes of Tash [Natasha Dowie], Coco [Corina Schroder] and Nici [Nicole Rolser] is a major boost ahead of the new season as these have all played a key role in the successes of the last two seasons.

Finally, what's your message to Liverpool Ladies fans?

Thank you for all your support over the past couple of seasons - you have been just as much a part of our success as the team. With your backing, we feel anything is possible at this fantastic club.
