Jordan Henderson has spoken once more of the leadership provided by Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as the deputy responded to the news of his decision to depart the club at the end of this season.

It was announced on Friday morning that the talismanic midfielder will bid farewell to the team he has represented with incredible distinction for 17 years when the current campaign concludes.

Tributes have been delivered at large from across the football world in the hours since, with the Reds' No.14 quick to offer his own personal words of respect for Gerrard.

"It was a big shock this morning to see that Stevie will be leaving at the end of the season," Henderson said, speaking to BBC Football Focus.

"It will be difficult because he's such a leader of our group and such a figurehead - he has been for many years.

"It will be a shock to everyone, especially us players. We've just got to try to deal with it as best we can."
