After firing his first goal of the season against Aston Villa recently, Fabio Borini has trained his sights on achieving another target – getting back on the scoresheet at Anfield and celebrating with the Liverpool fans.

On his second successive start in attack, the Italian marked his 14th appearance of 2014-15 with a smart finish to open the scoring in the Reds' 2-0 victory at Villa Park last weekend.

Borini admits he was elated at getting off the mark for the campaign, and now he's hoping to repeat the trick on home soil in the coming weeks.

"It meant a lot to me because I've been waiting for that goal for a long time," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "It was really enjoyable to get the goal and with the win it was even better.

"There were a lot of emotions at the same time. Usually we say it is an indescribable feeling because there are too many things going on inside.

"Relief is one of those [emotions]. Passion, persistence, hard work...all at the same time in one second.

"That's why I love to score goals, because you have all of those emotions going on inside in one second. It's a very good feeling."

Borini has just one Anfield goal to his name so far - a well-taken effort on his debut in front of the Kop against FC Gomel in August 2012.

He added: "A home goal is the next one I am trying to score.

"At home I probably haven't been involved as much as in the away games because all the games I have started in the league this season have been away.

"But it would be nice to score in front of our fans because I could celebrate with them."

Borini has been selected to start in both of Liverpool's last two Barclays Premier League encounters.

Prior to leading the forward line against Villa, the striker also started the previous outing against Sunderland, and it is a run he has relished.

Borini said: "It's nice to be involved, more than probably everyone expected since the beginning of the season.

"I am enjoying playing and I can give my help to the team with goals, performances and hard work. It's enjoyable.

"When you're out [of the team] for a long time and you get a little bit [of action], you get a taste and want to be involved in every game and try to score. That's what gives me the passion - you get a little bit and you want more.

"I'm a player that always wants to play, even if I only had one leg!"

Borini's work-rate, willingness to run into space and close down opposing defenders has won plenty of plaudits from fans and teammates alike, while Brendan Rodgers recently highlighted the No.29's persistence.

Asked whether he felt that his exertions in attack were one of his biggest attributes, Borini replied: "It's probably the biggest because I know I am not the best technical player in the world or in the team, but I know I can work as hard as anyone - if not harder.

"From the first minute until the last, and from the first day until the last, I will always give my maximum because this is what and who I am.

"I have been playing football since I was a kid and in the park I was never happy to lose, and I am still never happy to lose now. It's still exactly the same for me."
