Kolo's rush to watch Reds' cup semi-final
Kolo Toure was representing his country on a different continent as Liverpool tackled Chelsea on Tuesday night – but the defender sourced the result at the earliest opportunity.
The Reds' No.4 is currently stationed in Equatorial Guinea with Ivory Coast to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which got underway last weekend.
Mere hours before Brendan Rodgers' side played out an absorbing 1-1 draw with the Blues in their Capital One Cup semi-final, first leg, Toure had taken to the field himself.
The 33-year-old centre-back featured for the entirety of the Ivorians' opening match of the competition and experienced the same scoreline against Guinea.
Once his duties were concluded, Toure wasted little time in discovering how his club had fared at Anfield before settling down to watch exactly how the encounter unfolded.
"I went straight to watch the game," he told BBC Sport. "It was a little bit late, but I phoned my wife at home straight away to know.
"I always call to know what time the games are, so I can watch them. Of course I'm here, but half of me is there as well because everything my club does is very important to me.
"Raheem [Sterling] scored a fantastic goal. I was really happy and proud for him, because he is a top player.
"The club is doing better and we are looking stronger, winning games. There is a lot to come from Liverpool Football Club."
