Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool remain confident of avoiding the fate of several Barclays Premier League rivals and overcoming Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup fourth round.

Saturday's ties saw a string of shocks in the knockout competition, with Chelsea and Manchester City notably stunned and eliminated on home soil by lower-league opposition.

The Reds expected a tough task against Neil Lennon's charges at Anfield and experienced just that, with the Championship outfit unperturbed by the challenge.

Liverpool created a host of opportunities to book a place in the next stage but were consistently thwarted by the stubborn goalkeeping of Adam Bogdan between the posts.

Nevertheless, Henderson - who captained the side with aplomb in the absence of Steven Gerrard - believes they can complete the job in a replay and maintain hopes of silverware.

The No.14 told Liverpoolfc.com: "We're disappointed we didn't win because we had a lot of chances and dominated the game with the ball. But we couldn't find the back of the net.

"But, at the same time, we're still in the competition. A lot of big teams have gone out. We're still confident we can go through. We've just got to focus on the next game now.

"They made it very difficult for us. In the first half, they were breaking away a little bit. But in the second half we controlled it much better.

"We had a lot of chances to win the game but just couldn't find the back of the net. The performance was good; we've just got to keep going and if we do that again on Tuesday, hopefully we can get a better result."

Liverpool are already one game away from Wembley, with a Capital One Cup semi-final, second leg against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the schedule for Tuesday night.

They enter the contest following a 1-1 draw in the opening match at Anfield, and Henderson has faith that the Reds' level of performance can bring rewards in London.

"The performance level was very good again - we've got to keep that going," said the midfielder.

"The confidence is still very high, with a big game on Tuesday. It's a huge game, a big game for us. Hopefully, if we can put a performance in, we'll get the right result."
