Ahead of the decisive Capital One Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, we enlisted the help of club statistician, Ged Rea, who provides us with all the pertinent match stats and facts.

Liverpool require a victory at the Bridge, a score draw higher than 1-1 after extra-time or a penalty shoot-out to progress to their 12th League Cup final.

On the previous two occasions Liverpool have drawn the first leg they have gone on to reach the League Cup final. They drew 2-2 at Anfield with Walsall in 1984 and 0-0 at Southampton three years later.

Brendan Rodgers's side have to score tonight and they have found the net in eight of their last nine visits to Stamford Bridge.

The Reds' last League Cup semi-final saw them defeat Manchester City 3-2 on aggregate - City at the time were top of the league and went on to win the Barclays Premier League title four months later.

The last top-flight team to defeat Liverpool in the last four of this competition was Queens Park Rangers in 1986, while the other team to eliminate the Reds in the semis were Nottingham Forest in 1980.

The Reds' last two League Cup semi-final matches played away from home have seen Steven Gerrard score the only goal in 1-0 wins - at Manchester City in 2012 and Watford in 2005.

Of their four visits to London at this stage of the competition, the Reds have won once, that being at Crystal Palace in 1995. They have also lost at Palace and QPR and drawn at Arsenal.

Liverpool's last League Cup visit to Stamford Bridge came in November 2011. The Reds won 2-0 with second half goals from Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Kelly - this after Andy Carroll's early penalty had been saved by Ross Turnbull.

From that last meeting three years ago, only Jordan Henderson, Jose Enrique and Lucas of the current squad started that night, while Martin Skrtel came off the bench. For Chelsea, of the 14 who played, only Ramires (a used substitute) is still at Stamford Bridge.

In 11 meetings at Stamford Bridge in all cup competitions, Liverpool have won twice. Prior to the League Cup win in 2011 they won in the FA Cup in 1986. In both seasons the Reds went on to lift the trophy.

Steven Gerrard will be looking to improve on a record of one goal in 38 appearances against the Londoners. He has never scored at Stamford Bridge in 15 visits, perhaps the only big club ground in England at which he has failed to score.

Fabio Borini was part of the Sunderland team that knocked Chelsea out of this competition last season at the quarter-final stage. He scored in a 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light. He also scored the winner at Stamford Bridge in a league game last April. He played eight times for Chelsea in the 2009-10 season.

Gerrard needs one goal to reach double figures in all competitions for the 10th season in his Reds career. He has scored six goals in his last nine starts for the club.

The Reds are unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions and have lost only one of the last 15 in league and cup. They have kept three clean sheets in the last four games and in 2015 have conceded four goals in six league and cup matches.

Chelsea have lifted the trophy on four occasions - in 1965, 1998, 2005 and 2007. They lost in the final in 1972 and 2008. The Londoners' last semi-final appearance saw them lose 2-0 on aggregate to Swansea in 2013, with both goals coming in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho has faced Liverpool 20 times as a manager in his career, winning 10 and losing five. Only four players remain from the team that beat Arsenal to lift their last League Cup in 2007. Petr Cech, John Terry and Didier Drogba all started while John Obi Mikel came on as a substitute.

Only twice in Mourinho's two spells in charge have they conceded more than once in two successive home games - December 2006 and April 2014, while they have only ever lost successive home games on one occasion - in April 2014 they lost at Stamford Bridge to Sunderland and Atletico Madrid.

All of Diego Costa's 17 goals for Chelsea have come in the Premier League. He has not scored in his seven cup appearances. He has six goals from his last eight starts. Oscar has netted three times in his last three appearances after not scoring since November 1.
