It was a moment that will ultimately provide one of the most iconic photographs of the club's 2014-15 campaign – and Lucas Leiva admits the celebrations at Villa Park were indicative of the bond between Liverpool's players and fans.

When Rickie Lambert drove home the Reds' second goal against Aston Villa earlier this month, the team wheeled away towards the visiting supporters housed in the Doug Ellis Stand.

With both parties united in celebration, Lucas, in particular, seemed to enjoy the unfolding scenes as he was hoisted up in the air by the travelling Kop in a picture of shared delight.

The Brazilian feels those images demonstrated exactly why Liverpool's relationship with its fans is something unique within the game.

"Wow...it was a crazy one, to be honest," Lucas told Liverpoolfc.com at Melwood when asked to recall the moment.

"It was something that you really don't think about - you just do something that feels good and that was the case with that celebration.

"It just shows you what the club is about - togetherness - and especially with the players and the fans.

"Of course, we didn't have a very good start to the season but we have been improving and hopefully now with a few players back, and especially with [Daniel] Sturridge back, it will be a big boost."

Unfortunately, similar scenes were not on display at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening when Liverpool suffered a narrow exit in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup to Chelsea.

Afterwards, Lucas took to social media to thank the visiting Reds fans for their support in London and offer his apologies for not booking a final date at Wembley on March 1.

"The fans have always been important," he said. "The support we got at Stamford Bridge was incredible and we could see they were really hoping we could get to the final.

"My message was to say sorry we couldn't make the final and that we will fight in the next game and competition in which we have a chance to make the final."
