Brendan Rodgers believes Steven Gerrard's upcoming landmark of 700 appearances for Liverpool is an 'incredible achievement' that may prove difficult to be matched.

The captain's next run-out for the Reds will clock up the milestone for a man who first wore the shirt he has represented with distinction in November 1998.

A precautionary absence from Saturday's 2-0 home victory over West Ham United prevented Gerrard from sealing the feat in front of his own supporters.

In explaining the No.8's omission at Anfield, however, Rodgers reported that the midfielder should be available to face Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

If so, the fourth round replay with the Championship outfit will bring Gerrard up to 700 matches in Liverpool colours, which Rodgers sees as a tall order to emulate.

"It's an incredible achievement and I'm not sure it will happen again," said the Northern Irishman. "It will take some achievement by any player to do that again.

"His life and journey here have been remarkable and you see how committed and focused he still is. It is absolutely incredible and there are more appearances to come."
