Jordan Henderson believes the character within Liverpool's dressing room has come to the fore in recent weeks and enabled them to revitalise their season.

Since losing at Manchester United on December 14, the Reds have been defeated on only one other occasion in the 13 matches that have followed - a narrow 1-0 extra-time reversal at Chelsea.

On Wednesday, Brendan Rodgers' side were forced to dig deep into their resolve once again, scoring two late goals to overcome Bolton Wanderers and secure a 2-1 win at the Macron Stadium.

"It shows we never give up," Henderson told Liverpoolfc.com when reflecting on that FA Cup fourth-round replay win.

"We kept going right until the end and we've got great character in the team, and a lot of quality as well. I thought the front four were outstanding all night, getting on the ball and creating things.

"Philippe and Raheem came up with the goods in the end with two great finishes. Like I said, it gives us great confidence and a boost for the weekend.

"There is a lot of character in the team and that's important. When there are a lot of games coming, you want people that are going to dig in and want to win, whether that's in training or in games.

"We've definitely got that here. Everyone wants to win, everybody is together and we've been working well, especially in the last few months.

"We need to continue doing that, keep working hard and hopefully keep pushing up the league and do well in the cups.

"It was a great result for us. We knew going there would be difficult, but if we kept playing the way we have been of late we knew we'd get the result. Bolton made it difficult at times, but I always felt we were a threat going forward and we managed to get the goals in the end that were needed.

"It's given us a great boost going into the game at the weekend."

After Eidur Gudjohnsen had given Bolton an early second-half lead from the penalty spot, Liverpool had to wait until the 86th minute to draw level when Raheem Sterling steered a controlled close-range volley home.

And then it was left to Philippe Coutinho to seal the host's fate, curling home a magnificent effort from 20 yards in stoppage time to send the Reds into round five and the travelling Kop into delirium.

That strike came just one day after the Brazilian had committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract - and, much like everyone else, Henderson has been impressed by his outstanding form in recent weeks.

"When he first came to the club, everybody was excited by the potential of Philippe," said the vice-captain. "You've seen him grow throughout the season, really step up to the plate and take control of games. He's been outstanding for us this season and is a real quality player. We're lucky to have him in this team.

"He's still very young and there is a lot of pressure on young players these days to perform. I think Philippe has handled that brilliantly.

"This season, especially when we've been doing well over the last few months, you've seen the consistency, taking games by the scruff of the neck and producing the goods. It's fantastic for him and fantastic for the team.

"Hopefully he will keep growing and he will keep getting better - and if he does that, he will be world class."

Next up for Liverpool in the Cup is a Valentine's Day trip to Selhurst Park and a fifth-round tie with Crystal Palace.

Henderson knows what it takes to get to the final of the tournament having helped the Reds reach the Wembley showpiece in 2012, though they ultimately lost out 2-1 to Chelsea on that occasion.

Nonetheless, such memories act as added motivation for the 24-year-old in his quest to bring silverware to the Anfield trophy cabinet.

"It was disappointing," recalls Henderson. "We won the League Cup that year, which was fantastic, and then we won the semi-final and were confident we could go on and win the FA Cup final.

"It wasn't to be, but I'll always remember that day when we didn't win it and it gives you that extra boost and willingness to go and put that right by winning the FA Cup for everybody involved with Liverpool Football Club.

"It's a great competition and everyone wants to do well in it. We saw some big teams go out in the last round, so we knew we needed to go to Bolton and get a result - and we did that.

"Palace in the next round will be a tough game, we know it's difficult going there, but it's one we will look forward to. Hopefully we can get through to the next round and keep building from there."
