January was arguably Liverpool's most impressive period of the season, but which of our five contenders gets your vote for the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award?

The New Year began with a frustrating home draw against Leicester City, though the Reds rallied to win all three Barclays Premier League games that followed without conceding a goal.

Brendan Rodgers' charges also navigated four cup ties - a pair in the FA Cup and an enthralling two-legged Capital One Cup semi-final with Chelsea that was ultimately narrowly lost.

At the heart of much of the Reds' encouraging work in January was playmaker Philippe Coutinho, December's winner and an ever-present in starting all eight fixtures last month.

'Top level' was how Rodgers described the Brazilian's recent displays, not least in his pair of sublime assists to help his side overcome West Ham United. The No.10 makes the shortlist.

Emre Can was also named from kick-off in every single contest, providing an assured presence with his composure and confidence.

Alongside him, Mamadou Sakho was solid once again, shutting down potential danger and launching impressively into challenges. The Frenchman grew and grew as the month went on and so he has made our shortlist.

Raheem Sterling, flourishing as part of a three-pronged attack was a constant source of inspiration as he struck twice during another impressive month up front for the Reds.

Lucas Leiva also featured in each encounter, offering firm cover for the defence throughout that period, breaking down opposition attacks and pressurising constantly.

But which of these five players do you believe deserves to receive the Standard Chartered Player of the Month trophy during a special presentation at Melwood in the near future?
