Moreno: Attacking aspect suits my game
He may have initially been brought to Anfield to bolster the defensive ranks, but Alberto Moreno insists he's relishing his attacking responsibilities in Liverpool's new-look 3-4-3 system.
The Spaniard has started all bar one of the Reds' last nine matches, operating in a role on the left of midfield which requires him to help protect the rearguard while also offering assistance to the attack.
It's a berth Moreno is enjoying being deployed in, particularly with the excellent run of form Brendan Rodgers' team are currently on.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I played as a winger when I was younger. I really like this formation as I can attack more, which is one of the things I like to do the most on the pitch.
"Of course, we also have defensive duties but this system gives me more freedom to attack. I like this formation as I think it suits the type of players we have very well - and things are unfolding well as a result. We'll continue to improve as a team if we keep doing things as we have.
"We are playing with three central defenders in addition to the two wingers, who help the team by defending and attacking. We're constantly looking to help the defenders with the assistance of our midfielders - Stevie, Lucas and Hendo mainly.
"Everyone does their best to help both defensively and in the attack. I think it's very important that we play as a team and stay together - that's what's been helping us to get the points."
Moreno arrived on Merseyside from Sevilla in August and has already notched 27 appearances for Liverpool so far this term.
His transition from La Liga to the Barclays Premier League has been a relatively smooth one - though the 22-year-old admits the intensity of the English game was something he was required to adjust to, as well as overcoming the language barrier in his new surroundings.
"The hardest aspect is the language," explained Moreno. "Sometimes it's difficult to understand as it's different from Spanish, of course - but I believe I will soon be able to speak English.
"Moreover, the league here is very intense and very competitive - it doesn't matter if you're playing against the top or the bottom team. Games are always hard-fought and you have to give everything.
"You can concede a goal very easily and lose the game if you get distracted for just a moment - so it's important to stay alert, strong and intense. It's very important not to lose your cool and concentration in the Premier League.
'Every game is very costly to win and you cannot relax regardless of the team you are playing against. I actually find it good that you have to be alert and give everything throughout the 90 minutes, knowing that a turnaround can happen at any time in this league.
"It's a competitive game and teams can often be offensive and defensive simultaneously. I like the Premier League a lot and I think it suits my qualities and my style of play."
Much like at his previous club Sevilla, Moreno has established himself as a popular figure at Liverpool - both in the dressing room and on the terraces.
The No.18 feels it's important to have forged a relationship with the club's fans, who in turn have assisted in his settling-in process.
"The Sevilla fans were great - they supported me since I started playing for the club," said Moreno. "I never heard any criticism - they just supported me. I just have good things to say about them.
"From the moment I arrived here, the Liverpool fans also gave me a warm welcome, which helped me feel more comfortable here.
"I think this is important for a player to adapt to a new city, a new club and a new country - it's important that everyone welcomes you and makes it easier for the player to adapt and stay at the club.
"I think what the fans want to see - as well as winning games - is the players giving everything on the pitch and doing their best for this club in this shirt, regardless of the final result.
"I believe we have been doing that lately and I like it that the fans appreciate how hard the players work and that we do everything possible for the club. They can see it and we'll keep doing that until the end of the season."
