A jury member at the Hillsborough inquests has been discharged due to 'wholly exceptional medical reasons', it was confirmed by the coroner today.

The hearings into the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans at the stadium disaster on April 15, 1989 are being conducted in Warrington and started in March last year.

Expected to conclude in early 2016, the inquests resumed today following a week-long half-term break and will now continue with 10 jurors.

The coroner, Lord Justice Goldring, said: "As you know, I've had to discharge one of you from jury service for wholly exceptional medical reasons.

"I'm sure you share my feelings that it is very sad that I have had to do so. We, of course, must carry on."
