Jordan Henderson is confident Liverpool can maintain the impetus that has helped them muster an 11-game unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League and sustain their challenge for a top-four finish.

The Reds' remarkable run of form continued on Sunday as they defeated reigning champions Manchester City 2-1 in a pulsating contest at Anfield.

It was a result that elevated Brendan Rodgers' side to fifth place in the standings, two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and just three behind Arsenal in third.

"It was a big result and it gives us a lot of confidence," Henderson reflected. "We were all disappointed to go out of the Europa League and then we only had a short spell to turn it around. That is always difficult but I thought we dealt with it really well.

"We were outstanding against City, but we just have to keep going. Wednesday is another big game and we have to focus on getting the job done against Burnley.

"We finished strongly last year, we won 12 of our last 14 games, but we just missed out on the title. That was disappointing but we have learned a lot and hopefully we can use that experience in the last 11 games and give it a real go and win as many games as we can.

"We've got to aim to win every game and I think we have got the ability to do that. We have got a good enough squad, we just have to make sure that we don't get too carried away. Hopefully we can just keep building.

"The main thing is to concentrate on ourselves as much as we can, keep the momentum going and see where it takes us really."

Henderson set Liverpool on their way to the three points against City with a rasping 11th-minute drive.

Edin Dzeko levelled for the visitors midway through the first half, but Philippe Coutinho secured the win with a stunning long-range curler to send Anfield into delirium.

"I caught my shot well and thankfully it went in but maybe Philippe's was just a bit better, wasn't it?" smiled Henderson.

"Sometimes I just have to be more disciplined in the role we play and I can't get forward as much as I have done in the past.

"I have got to pick my moments. Thankfully, I picked the right moment to go forward and got my goal."

On Coutinho's goal, Henderson added: "He is unbelievable with the quality that he has got.

"He can go as high as he wants. He is exactly the same in training as what you see on the pitch. He works ever so hard and he has got a great mentality.

"He's a massive player for us. He has just signed a long-term contract, which is big for the club. You have to keep him here for as long as you can."
