Natasha Dowie scored against her former club as Liverpool Ladies beat Everton 1-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes on Tuesday night.

The game was played on a 30 minutes each way basis as both sides looked to build up their fitness ahead of the new season, and Matt Beard's side were good value for the victory.

Dowie struck a late winner when a spectcular effort from close season capture Asisat Oshoala fell kindly to her and the No.9 lashed the ball home.

The Blues had an early chance but the dependable Libby Stout made a superb save to keep out an effort from Danielle Taylor.

German winger Nicole Rolser, who is looking sharp after missing the majority of last season through injury, had another impressive outing and came close to a goal when she saw a close range effort cleared off the line.

Beard's side begin the defence of their Women's Super League crown on Wednesday March 25 when they host Sunderland at the Select Security Stadium.

Liverpool Ladies team: Stout, Ryland, Easton, Revitt, Schroder (Pacheco), Dale (Elmore), Oshoala, Longhurst, Smorsgard, Rolser, Dowie.
