Jordan Henderson may have scored a spectacular goal for the second game running, but the vice-captain was keen to highlight the contributions made by those around him in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday night.

Just days after his stunner against Manchester City, the midfielder put the Reds on their way to another three points when he connected perfectly with a loose ball on the edge of the box after 29 minutes at Anfield.

The ferocious half-volley broke the deadlock and it was Henderson who also laid on a sumptuous assist for Daniel Sturridge's header early in the second half.

It meant Liverpool kept up their momentum in the chase for a top-four finish as they made it 12 games unbeaten in the Barclays Premier League.

Afterwards, a typically modest Henderson was eager to play down his own personal contribution to the outcome, instead preferring to explain why he believed it was a well-executed team performance.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I like to score any type of goal, even if it's a tap in. It doesn't really matter as they all count.

"The most important thing is the three points for the team and it was an outstanding performance, right the way from Simon [Mignolet] all the way up [to the front]. Hopefully we can just keep building and keep the momentum going.

"I always want to try and score - and assist as well. As much as I can, I always want to have an influence on the game. But the main thing is we're really solid as a team and we've got fantastic players going forward.

"If we're solid, we can let them go and do the business up front. Thankfully we got the goals, so it was another pleasing performance.

"It was a big game for us and another big three points, especially after the weekend, and I felt it was a job well done."

The impetus Liverpool have built up over the last three months can be highlighted by the fact they're the only unbeaten team in England's top four divisions so far in 2015.

Henderson's explanation for the Reds' resurgence is a simple one.

"It's confidence," he said. "We're really solid as a team together and with the players we've got, like Philippe, Raheem, Studge, Adam Lallana and players like that going forward, we can hurt anyone.

"If we're solid from the back right the way through, they'll always score goals and create things.

"That's been key for us and the formation has been brilliant as well. We've been playing with high pressure and intensity and we just need to keep it going."

Statistically, it was a landmark night for Henderson against the Clarets.

The 24-year-old notched his 200th Premier League game, while his unbeaten record when wearing the Liverpool captain's armband was maintained.

Put to him, Henderson replied: "The 200 games means I'm getting a bit older, which is not nice!

"But the captain one doesn't make any difference to me - I just try to do what I always do and lead by example, whether I'm captain or not, and so does everyone else.

"The performance and the points are the most important thing - I'll let everyone else look at the stats!"
