As Liverpool Ladies prepare to start their new campaign with an FA Cup clash at Birmingham City on Sunday, goalkeeper Libby Stout admits it would be special to go all the way to the final at Wembley.

Matt Beard's side head to Solihull Moors for the 2pm GMT kick-off, with all eyes on them as the team to beat following back-to-back Women's Super League titles.

Birmingham ran Liverpool close for the title last season and will represent a tough test in this fifth round encounter.

The FA Women's Cup, first contested in 1970-71, has been given added spice this season with a Wembley final for the first time, and with Liverpool entering at the fifth round stage it means Beard's charges are just three games away from what would be a special August date.

Being a player from across the Atlantic, Stout revealed it would be a proud moment to play at England's national stadium, but admitted the team can't afford to look too far ahead just yet.

"As an American I am gradually learning the gravity of what playing at Wembley means for the players from hearing the girls talk about it," Stout told Liverpoolfc.com.

"It's a huge incentive but we also have to keep in mind that we can only get there by winning each game, so we need to take care of Birmingham first and then think about the next round.

"Everybody is looking forward to having a competitive game again and we can't wait to get started.

"It's a tough draw for our first game in the FA Cup and Birmingham will be a good test. It's a little bit of redemption for me to go back there and make sure I have a good game because I didn't have a good day there last season."

During the last encounter with the Blues last September, a mistake from Stout gifted Birmingham an equaliser, only to see teammate Fara Williams restore the lead straight from the kick-off with a Xabi Alonso-esque strike from the halfway line.

Beard's charges finished just a point ahead of Birmingham and that victory was to prove a pivotal moment in their title charge.

She added: "Fara saved me on the day. We all make mistakes and Fara was there for me and the whole team, and that is what we are about. We are a collective and together and it's not about individuals.

"It was an emotional day for me but we got the win and it worked out well in the end.

"It would be nice to do well in the cup games. We just prepare the same as we always do, whether it be a league game or in the cup and hopefully we can have another great season."
