Roy Evans to manage Carra All-Star team
Roy Evans returns to the Anfield dugout on Sunday after it was confirmed that the former Liverpool boss will manage Jamie Carragher's team in the All-Star charity match.
After joining the club as an apprentice in 1965, the dedicated Englishman was a player and later coach for the Reds and would become a key member of the mythical Boot Room.
He assumed the managerial reins in January 1994 and oversaw a young side brimming with attacking verve, confidence and optimism - a group truly playing 'the Liverpool way'.
Evans guided Liverpool to victory in more than half of the 226 matches he took charge of, with the highlight a League Cup triumph over Bolton Wanderers at Wembley in his first full season.
He was also the man to hand Carragher his debut for Liverpool, in January 1997, the first of 737 appearances across 16 glorious years at Anfield for the legendary centre-back.
Now the pair will reunite for an All-Star charity match this Sunday, organised by the Liverpool FC Foundation to help raise funds for its programmes and other charities in the city.
Evans will manage a star-studded squad of players featuring such stellar names as Craig Bellamy, Carragher, Didier Drogba, Luis Garcia, Dirk Kuyt, Pepe Reina and many more.
His outfit will face off against a formidable group captained and selected by Steven Gerrard, which already includes Xabi Alonso, Thierry Henry, Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.
LFCTV HD will broadcast the match live and exclusively in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, and the game will be available for fans around the world to watch on LFCTV GO.
