Liverpool FC will support this year's Earth Hour on Saturday March 28 at 8.30pm BST, when all club sites will switch off their lights and minimise electricity usage for one hour.

Earth Hour is the world's biggest celebration for our planet. Hundreds of millions of people from across the world are joining together in a symbolic and spectacular light-outs display.

Andrew Parkinson, operations director at Liverpool FC, said: "This is the fourth year that we have participated in Earth Hour, which for the club isn't just about saving energy for an hour; it's about our ongoing commitment to protecting the climate and working towards building a sustainable future.

"Our 'Reds Going Green' initiative, which was launched in 2012, is the club's long-term commitment to reducing its energy and carbon footprint by operating in the most environmentally friendly way.

"In 2014, the initiative successfully achieved a 25 per cent overall reduction in the club's energy and carbon consumption, which is something that we are keen to progress and build on, year on year."

Liverpool is also encouraging its fans to save power during Earth Hour by switching off lights, televisions and computers at home for one hour, starting at 8.30pm on Saturday.
