Emre Can was involved in a topsy-turvy U21s clash between England and Germany on Monday evening, with the Liverpool man's country on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline.

At the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, the Reds' No.23 featured for the entire contest and was close to claiming a goal with a dangerous free-kick that was saved before half-time.

By that stage, Philipp Hofmann and Jesse Lingard had already traded goals - and the former needed just five minutes of the second period to put Germany in front again.

But late strikes for the hosts from Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse swung the game back in England's favour and ruined Can's exertions on this occasion.
