The best way for Liverpool to respond to their weekend setback at Arsenal is by ensuring a positive result against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup this Wednesday, believes Simon Mignolet.

At the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, the Belgian had to pick the ball out of his net four times - including three in eight frantic minutes before the break - as the Reds were overturned 4-1.

Defeat in the capital leaves Brendan Rodgers' side with a mountain to climb in their pursuit of Champions League qualification this season, which the manager admitted is now a tall order.

So a quarter-final replay at Ewood Park in midweek has become even more important to the club's campaign - and Mignolet insists that Liverpool will have to quickly move on to a fresh mindset.

"We knew that the two games against Manchester United and Arsenal would be very important," the goalkeeper told the Liverpool Echo.

"We needed to take points from them but we haven't and that's a big disappointment.

"We didn't start the game against Arsenal the best but then we got back into it and created a few chances.

"Unfortunately, we didn't take them and then conceded three goals in a really short period of time that killed the game off really.

"In the second half we were playing for pride. We played better and pulled one back but then after we went down to 10 men we conceded again.

"We have to move on. We've got another massive game on Wednesday night. We need to make sure we get through in the FA Cup.

"The FA Cup tie is our only focus now. The FA Cup is very important for us. We have to make sure we are prepared.

"We know what's at stake. We know it won't be an easy game but we need to be ready for Blackburn."
