Simon Mignolet is determined to maintain his recent resolve to become a greater organiser from his goalline to help Liverpool recover from the sting of a 4-1 defeat by Arsenal at the weekend.

The Belgian international has been significantly more confident and commanding between the posts since returning to action on Boxing Day following a short period out of the line-up as a substitute to Brad Jones.

An assured demeanour and sense of clarity has ensured the goalkeeper's natural shot-stopping ability could come to the fore again, playing a key role in the Reds clocking up 10 clean sheets in 2015.

Mignolet made two outstanding saves to thwart the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, though three goals conceded in eight minutes before half-time and a late Olivier Giroud strike rendered those contributions academic.

"We didn't start the game well enough," the 27-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com. "After that, we came back into it and had a couple of chances, but unfortunately we didn't score a goal.

"Then in a short space of time we conceded three, which ended the game really. You come out in the second half to play for pride and take something from the game, and we did better in the second half. But obviously it was a disappointing result.

"You always look for certain things you can do better and what went wrong. I always speak to the defence and on the way back from Arsenal we talked through a couple of things. You always look for what you can do better when the next game comes around."

For the Liverpool custodian, that means loading up videos of the pertinent defensive incidents in north London and assessing the scope for subtle improvements alongside goalkeeping coach John Achterberg.

The FA Cup quarter-final replay against Blackburn Rovers is next up on Wednesday night - with a chance to play at Wembley up for grabs - though Emre Can and Martin Skrtel will be absent through suspension.

Mignolet has faith in whoever is tasked to step into the breach at Ewood Park and plans to be a source of vocal organisation throughout the clash with the Championship side.

He said: "You always try to take the positives and negatives out of the game. I'm my own biggest critic and you analyse your games in a critical way together with the goalkeeping coach.

"You see afterwards what you could have done better. At certain moments, you have to make a save - in the first 10 minutes [against Arsenal] I tried to keep the clean sheet, but unfortunately it didn't happen.

"Your own individual performance always comes second best and you don't really want to think about that too much because it's about winning games and making sure, together with the team, you're getting the performance that you want.

"Afterwards, you'll analyse your own game to see what was good and what can be done better. The goalkeeping coach, the gaffer and the fans asked me to be commanding and demanding.

"Before the game, Kolo [Toure] reminded me that I had to keep him on his toes with it being his first game for a while. I've done that ever since I came back into the team, to be loud and help the team out, organising and helping them in a positive way.

"Organising the defence is something that is very important and I try to do my best every single day in training to make sure the lads get the information they need."

The loss at Arsenal was preceded by defeat against Manchester United before the international break, a dual blow to the Reds' ambitions of reaching the Barclays Premier League top four.

Mignolet refuses to concede that particular race but insists the focus has to stretch no further than Blackburn, a game which he sees as an opportunity for immediate redemption.

"The good thing is that if there is a game coming so close afterwards, you can go into that game looking forward to making sure that you put things right," added the No.22.

"It's a massive game against Blackburn, we knew that beforehand. It's not going to be easy and it's going to be a totally different game to the one away at Arsenal.

"It will be tough, but we want to get through to the next round and put in a performance to make sure that we play in the semi-final at Wembley."
