Simon Mignolet insists Liverpool will neither be looking backwards nor forwards when they step out at Ewood Park this evening – they will simply be firmly focused on overcoming Blackburn Rovers.

The Reds make the short journey to Lancashire for the FA Cup replay aiming to book a place in the semi-finals at Wembley against Aston Villa later this month.

They'll do so after consecutive defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League that have dented their ambitions of sealing a top-four finish this term.

Nonetheless, Mignolet believes Liverpool won't be dwelling on such frustrations - nor allowing their minds to drift to thoughts of what could be in the cup this season - when they kick off against the Championship team.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "You don't look too far over your shoulder - it's about the next game. I said it a few weeks ago, but as a football player the last game is what's remembered and the next one is the one you have to focus on.

"That's how it'll always be and how it is in football. The only thing we can do is make sure we're ready come kick-off on Wednesday evening.

"Everybody is really resilient and wants to get back to winning ways. After games, you're looking straight away at things you want to eradicate to make sure they don't happen again going into the next game. I'm sure everyone is ready to go and hungry to get through to the next stage of the FA Cup.

"Frustration is never a good thing to keep in mind, but maybe the hunger after the [Arsenal] game can give you something extra going into the game at Ewood Park to try to make sure we eradicate the things we did at Arsenal and put in a good performance against Blackburn."

Mignolet added: "The message is we just have to take every game as it comes and not look too far ahead of ourselves.

"We've got the Blackburn game now and that's what we have to focus on, try to make sure we win there and get through to the next round. What comes after that will come after that, so there's no point looking too far in front.

"It's another experience to win [silverware] and for me personally, I want to go to Wembley and win the cup. As a footballer, you want to win trophies and medals - but first comes first we have to get past Blackburn.

"We can't think about anything else apart from making sure we get to the semi-final. We'll see what happens after that, but it's obviously a big incentive to win the FA Cup and give that to everybody at Liverpool Football Club."

Blackburn forced tonight's replay when they held Liverpool to a goalless draw in the original meeting at Anfield in March.

Gary Bowyer's side are currently 10th in the Championship having secured an emphatic 3-0 win at Leeds United last time out on Saturday - and Mignolet is aware of the stern test awaiting he and his teammates.

"You know when you play a team like Blackburn they will be direct," he said. "They've got a lot of strong strikers up front and they play direct football - and at Ewood Park it'll be no different.

"We know what we'll come up against, but for us it's more about looking at ourselves and making sure we play our football in the way we want to.

"It's a game we want to win and go through in. Away from home in England, especially in the FA Cup, it's always tough.

"We know what we'll come up against and we know the team because we've already played them at Anfield. We know what it'll be about."

Brendan Rodgers will be required to make changes to his defensive line-up at Ewood Park due to Emre Can's one-match suspension.

Mignolet, however, is confident whoever steps in to replace the German will be raring to go.

"I've always said everybody is ready when the gaffer asks them to do a job," said the goalkeeper. "Everybody works hard in training to make sure when they're called upon they are there to put in a performance.

"If you're a professional football player, you always have to be ready for when your chance comes about - and I'm sure everybody will be for Wednesday."
