Wednesday was a day of remembrance and reflection on Merseyside and beyond as the 26th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster was marked.

On April 15, 1989 at Sheffield Wednesday's stadium, 96 children, men and women lost their lives at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Each year, a poignant memorial service is held at Anfield in memory of those who died - bringing families, survivors, fans, players and staff together to pay tribute.

A selection of hymns, songs and speeches accompany the reading of the 96 names and lighting of a candle for each, and a minute's silence at 3.06pm.

Similar tributes were also paid in a variety of ways across the city and further afield for 96 supporters who will never, ever be forgotten.
