Brighton & Hove Albion have reported that Joao Carlos Teixeira's season is over after the Liverpool midfielder suffered a broken leg on Tuesday night.

The on-loan Portuguese was stretchered off after 80 minutes of the Championship side's goalless draw at home to Huddersfield Town.

In a statement on their website, Brighton explained that a subsequent X-ray on the injury revealed a break to his leg, just above the ankle.

Chris Hughton, the club's manager, commented: "Our thoughts are with Joao as this is a real blow to him after such a good season for the club, and we all wish him a speedy recovery and return to action.

"He's been an important player for the club this season, both before and after I came to the club, and I would like to thank him for his efforts during his time on loan here, and also Liverpool for allowing him to come."

Teixeira made 32 Championship appearances for Brighton during his time at the Amex Stadium, contributing six goals.
