Foundation gears up to run for the 96
Liverpool FC's official charity, the Liverpool FC Foundation, will be lending its support to the inaugural Run for the 96 fundraiser this weekend.
The event will take place at 9.30am BST on Sunday April 19, in memory of those who died at the Hillsborough disaster.
20 staff and students from the foundation's football college will be taking part in the 5K race alongside a group of 18 ex-service personnel from the charity's Military Veterans programme.
The students' participation will form part of their studies, which will also include a football cultural trip to Florence for the male students in May and Madrid for the female students in June.
The run, organised by BTR Liverpool, will start and finish in Stanley Park, taking in both Anfield and Goodison Park.
All runners will be raising funds for the race's two charitable partners, the Liverpool FC Foundation and Everton in the Community, to contribute towards their programmes across Merseyside.
This is a key part of the event's commitment to ensuring that local communities benefit from the legacy run. All funds donated or raised will be split equally between the two charities.
Andrea Cooper, head of the Liverpool FC Foundation, said: "We are proud to be supporting the Run for the 96 in memory of those who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster.
"The funds raised from the race will help us to continue our fantastic work serving local communities in the UK and around the world.
"I wish our runners the very best of luck and I hope they enjoy the day."
