Brendan Rodgers has vowed his Liverpool players will not dwell on the heartbreak of defeat at Wembley as they prepare to keep the pressure on the top four between now and the end of the season.

The manager watched as hopes of reaching the FA Cup final were ended on Sunday, when Aston Villa came from a goal down to clinch a 2-1 victory in the final four of the competition.

The Reds have had a week of Melwood training to get the loss out of their system ahead of today's Barclays Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Rodgers' side currently occupy fifth place in the table, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City - but Liverpool do possess a game in hand on their rivals.

And while the manager knows his side are relying on others to fall short, he insists the Reds must be ready to take advantage, should their rivals falter over the next six games.

"Of course there was upset after last weekend but we have to get over it and move on. You can't afford to dwell on it, you have to refocus," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

"We clearly won't achieve some of our objectives this season in terms of a trophy but we have given everything we could to do that. Now we have to make sure we push and finish as high as we possibly can.

"We'll keep fighting right to the very end. If anyone is going to slip up we need to be there to take advantage of that. That's the message really.

"The aim is to win our last six games. That's what we're looking to achieve, It's a difficult ask but that's the intention of the group."

Rodgers will take charge of his 150th Liverpool game when the Reds meet the Baggies this afternoon - and the Northern Irishman insists his hunger for success remains as strong as ever.

He explained: "This was always going to be a longer term plan. I don't think anyone can say that we haven't made progress.

"We took over a team who finished eighth and in the last two and three quarter seasons we have implemented a philosophy to win games and excite.

"We went on an unexpected run that nearly brought us the title last season and qualified for the Champions League. This season we've reached two cup semi-finals without our No.1 striker [Daniel Sturridge].

"What we have to do is make that next step. We want to be winners and I am even more motivated than the first day I walked in here."
