Callum Nicholas was on the mark again as Liverpool U18s beat Warwick University 4-2 in a friendly encounter on Wednesday afternoon.

After netting a dramatic stoppage-time winner in Saturday's 3-2 win away at Derby County, the former Manchester United starlet displayed his goalscoring prowess once more.

The match was organised as the showpiece event to conclude a two-day trip by the Academy to Warwick University to learn about the importance of further education for young footballers.

Played in front of a healthy crowd in glorious sunshine, both sides produced a superb display of attacking football.

The home side took a first-half lead when Alex Roberts fired from close range, but Neil Critchley's men levelled the game five minutes after the restart when Jake Brimmer set up Toni Gomes to tap in.

However, Warwick University were soon back in front when Mark Claremont pounced to fire past Shamal George to make it 2-1.

Tom Brewitt then levelled the match when he got his head to a superb free-kick delivery from the excellent Yan Dhanda.

Nicholas fired the Reds into the lead with a great finish following a superb pass from the returning Liam Griffin and substitute Brad Garton netted from the penalty spot to make it 4-2 after he was brought down by Luke Simpson.

Critchley's charges play their final game of the campaign on Saturday when they host Reading at the Kirkby Academy at 11am BST, a match you can watch live on LFCTV.
