Ahead of Liverpool's meeting with Queens Park Rangers today, we spoke to a man who played more than 200 games for the Londoners and once scored for the club at Anfield – Wayne Fereday.

Will you be keeping an eye on Saturday's game?

I will be. Obviously we're in desperate need of points so I'll be keeping an eye on the game and the games affecting the top and mainly the bottom during the day.

QPR desperately need three points - do you think your team can get them at Anfield?

Honestly, I don't think so. I'd love them to and we desperately, desperately need the three points. To be fair, if there's ever been a time to play Liverpool at Anfield it's obviously now. With the few weeks that Liverpool have had, obviously the results have not been great. My heart is hoping we do and we get three points, but my brain's saying it'll be tough for us.

Do you think going to Anfield might inspire the QPR players?

I was a big Liverpool fan as a kid and to play there was a great experience. So I'm sure it'll spur some of the players on, because if you can't get up for a game at Anfield you're never going to get up for a game anywhere.

Have the club's struggles this season come as a surprise?

We're not a massive club but we spent some money, so I knew we weren't going to be at the top end of the table but I was thinking we could be mid-table. I didn't expect us to struggle as badly as we have, but that's the Premier League isn't it? We just haven't performed and that's why we're down the bottom end.

Other than Charlie Austin, who has scored a lot of goals for you, who should we look out for as a threat from QPR?

I think the guy who's a changed player since Harry's gone is Matty Phillips. From my point of view, he's got everything - he's big, he's strong, he's quick and he can deliver a ball, he can get crosses in. I think he's going to be one of the main men for us. If Charlie's going to get on the end of it, it's going to come from Matty, so he's a big player for us.

Reds fans may not know much about Chris Ramsey - what's he like as a manager?

I know from the time he's been in there that the players have got a lot of respect and time for him as a coach. I think he's a very, very good coach. If he's going to make the grade as a manager, that's going to be seen in time. I know an old teammate of mine, Les Ferdinand, has got a lot of time for Chris and that says it for itself really, if someone like Les is screaming Chris' name around, saying what a good coach he is. So time will tell, but I know the lads have a lot of respect for him. He's changed the way we've been playing. Results have still not been there but at least we're having a go now.

And how will he and QPR approach the game?

I think it'll be a containment start. He knows the calibre of players he's up against, even if it's not a great time for Liverpool at the moment. Hopefully we'll nick a goal from set-pieces and try to hold out for the win. I'm assuming we'll be happy with a point but it's no good to us at the minute, we need to win at the weekend.

You played and scored for Rangers in a draw at Anfield. Tell us a little bit about that game and how it felt...

Being a young lad as a Liverpool fan, all of a sudden I was playing at Anfield against Kenny Dalglish and Rush and that marvellous team. For us to go there and get a point, and for me to score the goal, it was as though we'd won the FA Cup. I just remember celebrating after the game with champagne in the changing room. The goal was a long ball forward, flicked on. Phil Neal was a great player, but I've obviously got the legs on him, outrun him and put the ball past Bruce Grobbelaar in goal. It was a great feeling for me and the club that night.

Would you take the same result this weekend?

I would definitely take a point this weekend but it's no good for us really, we need to win the game somehow, some way. My heart would love to say we'll go on and win 1-0 but I can't personally see us getting anything from Anfield. I'd be happy with a point but we need three.

Finally, what are you up to at the moment?

I work for the Press Association down on the south coast, covering Portsmouth and Southampton games, and I have an ambassador role at Loftus Road for home games, so I'm still involved and long may it continue.
