Simon Mignolet credits his fiancee and Liverpool's coaching staff for helping turn his season around - and he is hoping to cap his recovery with the Golden Glove award.

The Belgian suffered a dip in form during the middle of the current campaign and subsequently lost his place in the starting XI for the January trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

But he was handed a reprieve just three games later, when Brad Jones was forced off 16 minutes into a clash with Burnley after picking up an injury.

Mignolet has since re-established himself in the first team with a number of confident performances, and he says he could not have done it without the help of his other half, Jasmien, and the coaches at Melwood.

Speaking to the official Liverpool FC magazine, he said: "What she asked me was are you over-thinking stuff too much?

"Coincidentally the day afterwards when we met the coaching staff they mentioned the exactly same thing.

"That triggered something similar to a click in my head, something which told me: look we have to change something here.

"Obviously it helped that she and the coaching staff noticed it at the same time, so that was something we changed and it has helped my game and my performances since."

Mignolet's upturn in form is best underlined by the fact he leads the race for the Barclays Premier League Golden Glove award with just three games remaining.

The 27-year-old has 14 clean sheets to his name this term, one more than Southampton's Fraser Forster and Manchester City's Joe Hart, his closest rivals for the accolade.

The former Sunderland shot-stopper is eager to clinch the award so that the efforts of the defenders in front of him are also recognised, and believes more clean sheets could be the foundation for a late push for the top four.

"There is still a big incentive between now and the end of the season to try and get the most clean sheets together because that will mean we have finished the season strongly," he continued.

"I know from experience that in the Premier League anything is possible and everything can twist and turn.

"That is why we have to focus on our own jobs and make sure we win as many games as we can. We defend as a team and hopefully winning that award could also see us get into the top four.

"To achieve those things would be a great way to end the season."
