Simon Mignolet has revealed that the Liverpool players are determined to give Steven Gerrard the perfect Anfield sign-off as the captain prepares to make an emotional farewell appearance in front of the Kop.

With just two fixtures remaining of the 2014-15 season, the inspirational No.8 will make his final bow on home turf against Crystal Palace on Saturday in the 5.30pm BST kick-off.

Ahead of the game, goalkeeper Mignolet has talked up the importance of capping one of the great Reds careers by claiming three points to send the skipper and the fans home happy.

"We have the last home game of the season coming up against Palace and Steven’s last game at Anfield," said the 27-year-old.

“We want to ensure he goes out with a win and we want to give the fans three points.

“Stevie has done in the past two games what he’s been doing here throughout his career – scoring very important goals at important moments."

Sunday's draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge all but ended Liverpool's hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League, leaving Brendan Rodgers' charges six points behind Manchester United in the table with two games remaining.

However, Mignolet insists he and his teammates must still look to end the campaign on a high.

He added: “We have learned a lot this season, especially me, and we’ll take that into next season.

"We still have two games to play. We'll keep fighting for points.

"We'll keep training hard every day and stay focused until the end of the season.

"I haven't analysed why we've missed out on the top four because I'm focused on the job in hand."

While Liverpool received plaudits for their second-half display against the new Barclays Premier League champions, their Belgian shot-stopper believes a slow start could have been avoided.

He said: "You are never happy with a 1-1 draw but we responded well to conceding a goal so early in the game.

"I think we played a very good second half and created a number of chances but unfortunately we just couldn't score the second goal which we maybe deserved.

"The second half was good but we have to start games better than we did.

"I had to make some saves in the first half but I was only doing my job. I don't want to take any praise.

"What I've learned this season is to take the positives and the negatives and the praise and the criticism in the same manner.

"We'll look at my performance again during the week and I'll work with the goalie coach to see what I could have done better."

Mignolet also had words of encouragement for 18-year-old Jerome Sinclair, who was handed a league debut when he appeared as a second-half substitute for Rickie Lambert.

The No.22 added: "Jerome will learn from the experience going forward. I think when Sinclair came on he worked hard and put in a shift for the team.

"Fighting against defenders like Gary Cahill and John Terry will only make him better."
