LFC Legends to take on Real Madrid
Liverpool Football Club is pleased to announce its first official legends match against Real Madrid’s legends, which will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday June 14, 2015.
The match, which will also include a return game at Anfield, will raise funds for both clubs' charitable foundations.
Some of the star ex-players confirmed to play in the official Liverpool FC Legends team include Luis Garcia, Vladimir Smicer, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Harry Kewell and Jamie Carragher. LFC's all-time leading goalscorer and official club ambassador, Ian Rush, will also manage the Reds' official Legends team.
Real Madrid's team will also have a top line up of legends including, Roberto Carlos, Fernando Hierro, Claude Makelele and Emilio Butragueño.
All proceeds raised from this game will be donated to the Real Madrid Foundation, which develops and delivers social and cultural awareness programmes both in Spain and overseas.
The funds will be used to help children from the programme, 'Promoting School Success' which is delivered by the Spanish Red Cross, under the slogan 'Your ticket, their future.'
The return game, which is planned to take place at Anfield in the future, will raise funds for Liverpool FC Foundation. All of the proceeds raised from the return leg will help the Foundation to deliver a range of initiatives that inspire people from all walks of life to make positive change happen for themselves and their communities.
Ian Ayre, LFC chief executive officer, said: "We are delighted to announce our first ever official Liverpool FC Legends team and a first match with Real Madrid. The high calibre of players involved so far is a testament to both clubs and should make for a great game.
"We are hoping to build on the success of this partnership and look to stage more official Liverpool FC Legends games in the future.
"As vice chair of Liverpool FC Foundation I know that the funds raised from the second leg will benefit the wide range of programmes that help support youngsters and adults both locally and across the world."
