The iconic shot of Steven Gerrard touching the 'This is Anfield' sign one final time has been named in Getty Images' top 20 sports photographs of the week.

Taken by LFC's official photographer, John Powell, it captures the moment the captain made his way down the tunnel steps and out onto the pitch for his last ever home game for the Reds.

It was a photo used worldwide to encapsulate the emotion of the occasion and, as a result, has been named as one of the best newly taken sports shots in Europe by Getty Images.

John said: "I've been doing Steven for 17 years - I did his first game back in 1998 against Blackburn, and I obviously knew this would be his last game at Anfield.

"Knowing he makes a point of touching the sign before he goes out ahead of every game, I asked for permission to be in the tunnel and capture the moment as I knew it'd be an iconic moment.

"As well as being the club photographer, I'm also a massive Liverpool fan and, as I said, I've been shooting Steven since day one, so to be able to take this image was an absolute privilege for me. It was also sad because I knew it'd be the last time he touched the sign as a Liverpool player.

"It has to go down as one of my best ever photos because he's a legend at this club."
