Henderson: We will learn from mistakes
Jordan Henderson admitted Liverpool's final-day defeat at Stoke City was 'embarrassing' but has promised he and his teammates will be better for the experience.
The Reds ended the 2014-15 campaign with a 6-1 loss at the Britannia Stadium, with Steven Gerrard's second-half strike providing a lone bright spot on a disappointing afternoon.
But the club's vice-captain believes Brendan Rodgers' squad can learn from their mistakes.
Speaking ahead of England's friendly meeting with Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Sunday, Henderson said: "The result at Stoke was not acceptable and we know as players it was embarrassing for us and the club.
"It was a very up and down season, very disappointing, but a lot of the younger lads will be able to learn from the experience."
Rodgers has moved to mitigate for the loss of Gerrard's experience by clinching the signing of James Milner on a free transfer from Manchester City, subject to a medical.
Henderson knows the industrious midfielder well from international duty and is sure he will prove to be a shrewd acquisition.
"I've spoken to Milly and it's a fantastic signing," he added.
"His attitude on and off the field is first-class. You know you'll get energy from him. He's a quality player.
"I watched a lot of City players last year and he contributes a lot with assists and goals.
"He's got a lot of ability. And he does a lot of the dirty work as well. For me, it's a fantastic signing and I look forward to playing with him next season."
England's meeting with the Irish is being billed as a warm-up for their European Championships qualifying clash with Slovenia next Sunday.
But Henderson says his international colleagues will be taking this weekend's game just as seriously as the one that follows.
"I do not think it will be like a friendly. We are unbeaten and want to keep that run going as long as possible, it doesn't matter if it is a friendly or a qualifier," he continued.
"We want a win against Ireland, we need to be winning. The Scotland game was similar. The atmosphere that day was brilliant, it was a good performance from the team and we hope for the same on Sunday."
