Michael Owen admits he can't wait to wear the famous red again when Liverpool FC Legends take on Real Madrid on Sunday.

The former England striker is part of a select group of players who represented both clubs during his career, having spent a season in the Spanish capital after emerging from the Reds' Academy to make his name as one of Europe's most feared marksmen.

As a result, running out at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium for the fixture, which has been organised to help raise funds for the Real Madrid Foundation, is sure to stir memories of that stint for Owen.

But the Chester-born frontman, who also played for Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City, insists he feels a greater affinity with Liverpool than any other club.

"It's always great to put on the red shirt," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I've said many times before I still associate myself [with Liverpool], when I look back.

"If someone asked me to name one team that I played for throughout my career, I see myself as a Liverpool player.

"It feels like the norm putting on a red shirt but, having not done so probably since the Hillsborough memorial game, it'll be pretty special."

A host of Kop legends have signed up to take part in Sunday's game, many of whom Owen played alongside during his eight years in the first team at Anfield.

But it is the Scouse element of Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher that the 35-year-old is most looking forward to teaming up with again.

"I think it's just great to see all the old lads and play alongside them once again," he continued.

"Most of us played with each other for many, many years and me and Robbie [Fowler] scored many goals together. We played up front again at Anfield not so long ago and I'd say he's one of the players I'm looking forward to playing alongside.

"Obviously, the likes of Carra and Steve McManaman as well. I work with Macca on a weekly basis doing television but it'll be great to see him playing again because he was one of the real shining stars when I broke through to the Liverpool team.

"He was a phenomenal player and I'm sure he can still play a bit."

As a former Los Blancos star himself, Owen knows better than most just how good the Real players Liverpool will be facing are.

Like many of his Legends teammates have already stated, though, it is a certain Zinedine Zidane that he is most worried about coming up against.

"I think Zidane is the name that jumps off the page," he added.

"He was probably the best player I ever played with, he was a sensational player. Again, he's still involved in football and he still works at the club so I presume he'll be reasonably fit and will have a good touch and everything else.

"I think he'll be the danger man, he was obviously an exceptional player. He's someone we've got to watch out for but they've got so many top stars playing for them. It should be a really good game."
