Real Madrid hero Michel Salgado has hailed the success of Sunday's Legends game with Liverpool and revealed why he can't wait for the return tie at Anfield to be staged at a later date.

The Spanish giants came from 2-0 down to win 4-2 as fans at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium witnessed a classic encounter in which star names from both clubs' illustrious pasts rolled back the years.

At the same time, vital funds were raised for the Real Madrid Foundation, and Salgado says it was an occasion that will be remembered for a long time.

"I enjoyed it so much!" Salgado told Liverpoolfc.com. "Playing here again in the Bernabeu, wearing the shirt again and obviously playing against such a big team like Liverpool makes it really, really enjoyable.

"Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. When Real Madrid play against Liverpool it's always special.

"It was a really good game. They played very well in the first half, it was difficult for us and obviously to play against Robbie Fowler and [Ian] Rush, Steve McManaman, all these guys, is really good.

"It was also great to see former teammates, Michael Owen, Steve McManaman as well.

"I think it was an amazing day for us, the people enjoyed it.

"We came here to play and do something special for the kids. I think we raised a lot of money and, of course, we are happy to play and help the people. Helping the kids is the real function of why we are here.

"The atmosphere was unbelievable, 70,000 people, and I'm looking forward to playing at Anfield!"

Salgado knows that the Liverpool FC Legends team will be looking for revenge after being on the wrong end of some questionable penalty decisions in Madrid.

He added: "You know they are looking for revenge. You could see [Jamie] Carragher upset with the four goals they conceded.

"Obviously, they will want to win at Anfield, and we want to play there as well.

"Anfield is a special stadium as well, one of the best atmospheres in the world, so we are more than happy to play at Anfield."
