Fara Williams netted a crucial penalty as England qualified for the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup after a 2-1 win over Colombia on Wednesday night.

The Liverpool Ladies No.4 was an influential figure throughout the Montreal encounter as she played the full game.

Both goals came in the first 45 minutes. Karen Carney netted the opening goal from close range after Steph Houghton's free-kick was only parried by the Colombia goalkeeper.

Williams confidently slotted home the penalty for the crucial second goal on 38 minutes.

In stoppage time Lady Andrade pulled a consolation goal back but England managed to hold on for the victory.

Mark Sampson's side finished in second place in the group and now face Norway on Monday in the last 16 tie.
