Jordan Henderson has opened up on how 'the little details' can be key to winning the midfield battle in any Barclays Premier League game.

The 25-year-old featured in 37 out of 38 league fixtures in 2014-15, notching up a career-best tally of six goals despite Liverpool's season ending in frustrating fashion.

Henderson's growing stature was reflected by his appointment as Reds vice-captain in September, and he took the armband on a number of occasions in the absence of Steven Gerrard.

The England regular has now revealed the secrets behind his continual improvement, explaining how he goes about making his mark in the centre of the park.

"I think the main aim in the game is making sure that we contribute, not only attacking and assisting, but also defensively," he said.

"Making sure that you know your role in the team, what your job is, what you need to do, and performing that as best as you can.

"The midfield is obviously a crucial part in football at any level really, so it's important that you get a foothold in the game right from the start, and then build from there.

"[That] is what we try to do, we try to get a foothold in the game with the ball, keep possession of the ball and obviously the midfield is a crucial part of that.

"I think it's the little details that people maybe don't see in football, in terms of breaking the line, especially if you're in a deeper midfield role.

"You've got people like [Philippe] Coutinho, [Adam] Lallana and [Raheem] Sterling ahead of you, they need the ball fed into them quickly, and it's making sure that you do that with precise passing and getting them on the front foot as quickly as possible.

"With the receiving skills that they have got, you can sort of fire it in and they will deal with the ball."

Henderson also reflected on the 2014-15 campaign as a whole, revealing his favourite moments on a personal level.

"One of my best moments was probably the Man City game, the goal there and obviously Burnley at home, they were the two goals that I probably enjoyed the most," he continued.

"[They] were when we were on a good run, a good bit of form, and goals were big for us at the time."
