Fara Williams remains confident that England can progress to the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup as they get ready to face Norway in the last 16 on Monday night.

The Liverpool Ladies midfielder netted a priceless penalty as Mark Sampson's side qualified from the group stage after the 2-1 win over Colombia last week.

They now face the last 16 tie with Norway in Ottawa at 10pm BST on Monday, and Williams insists confidence in the camp is high.

"They are a very strong team. We drew 1-1 with them the last time we played them in Mark's first game in charge so we know they are tough opposition for us," said Williams.

"We know what they are about but as Mark has done throughout the tournament he has found a team to play in a positive way to beat the opposition, and I'm sure he will select a team that will stop the Norwegian's strengths and use our strengths going forward.

"From our first group game to our last game I think you can see positive progression and a momentum growing in the last three games."

England's most-capped women's player of all-time, Williams moved into third spot in the country's goalscorers list with her penalty against Colombia, following in the footsteps of the likes of David Beckham by netting for England in a World Cup.

She added: "It's an honour to be put in that bracket with the likes of Beckham and it was a proud moment.

"It was just a matter of taking it and executing it right and I managed to do that."

Playing in a World Cup is a special moment for Williams having come a long way since she was homeless for six years as a young woman.

She said: "This tournament is special regardless of my situation, just as other tournaments have been.

"Football is what I live to do, and enjoy doing, and from the moment my shirt goes on, I have to get on with it without letting any issues get in the way."
