As Emre Can prepares to run out for Germany's final group game of the U21 European Championship this evening, it's fair to say the Liverpool man has already made an impression.

The 21-year-old has registered a sublime goal and an assist for his country at the tournament in Czech Republic, to help them assume top spot in Group A after two matches.

Can's effort in the opener against Serbia showed many of the midfielder's in-built talents, as his footwork took him past a defender on the edge of the box and his precision planted a finish into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

That contest finished in a draw, though Germany soon shifted through the gears to dispatch Denmark 3-0 last weekend - with the Reds' No.23 again a forceful presence.

"He's the player who will seize the game and set the tone," is Germany U21 coach Horst Hrubesch's assessment of Can, who featured in 40 games during his debut season at Anfield.

Hrubesch will be hoping for more of the same when his side tackle the competition hosts in Prague tonight, requiring a point to book their place in the semi-finals.

The Czechs may benefit from paying close attention to the words of Pierre Hojbjerg, who watched from the Denmark bench as Can and Germany clicked in a commanding win.

"He's a sublime footballer and there is nothing he can't do," he commented. "His physique and his passing game are extraordinary and he also reads the game very well.

"You just have to look at how he established himself at Liverpool. And he's done it at a very young age, so these experiences will really pay off one day."
