Roberto Firmino will prove to be a fantastic acquisition for Liverpool, according to his former Hoffenheim teammate Heurelho Gomes.

The Reds announced last week that a deal had been agreed for the highly rated forward, subject to a medical that is set to take place following Brazil's exit from the Copa America.

Gomes knows as well as anyone just what sort of player Brendan Rodgers will be working with next term, having played alongside Firmino in the Bundesliga during a six-month loan stint.

And the goalkeeper, who will come up against the 23-year-old in the Premier League with Watford next season, believes his compatriot will flourish at Anfield.

"He's a talented player," he told Sky Sports. "I played with him at Hoffenheim. [At] that time, he wasn't there yet but I could see that he was going to become a very good player.

"I believe it's a very good signing from Liverpool and he is capable of doing very well in the Premier League.

"Of course, the Premier League is difficult, he will need time to adapt because he's still young.

"But he has everything to do very well."

Gomes also had his say on the qualities that should help Firmino settle quickly into life in England.

"He's a quality player, he can hold the ball well, pass the ball very well. As a No.10 is his best position, coming from [deep]," he added.

"He has the quality to pass the ball and the quality to finish as well."
