'World Cup can boost women's game'
England World Cup hero Fara Williams believes the recently concluded tournament can play a huge part in taking the women's game to the next level.
The Liverpool Ladies midfielder shone during the event in Canada, and the country's most capped player of all time scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot as the Lionesses beat Germany for the first time in their history to secure the bronze medal for third place.
With the Women's Super League set to resume this weekend, Williams insists the game can get bigger and better following impressive television audiences during the World Cup.
Reflecting on the impact of the competition, Williams said: "I certainly think it's been big.
"We haven't achieved something like this for a long time and the fact that we have means that hopefully we can really push on - media and everyone else, really trying to get the supporters in these Women's Super League games and grow our game even more.
"We'll know how much we've done when it comes to those WSL games and how many turn out for us.
"I think you've seen the passion we show in that shirt. We show it for club and country and we really do try to inspire young people to take up the sport.
"Hopefully they've seen that in our performances while we've been away and hopefully they'll all come out to our games and see what we do for our clubs."
Matt Beard's side return to domestic action on Sunday when they face second-placed Arsenal at Boreham Wood.
With the Reds six points behind the Gunners it is a massive test for Williams and co.
Beard will make a late decision on whether to select his No.4 on Sunday or give her an extra weekend of rest before the home clash with Notts County on Saturday July 18.
Despite playing in every game during the World Cup, Williams says she is ready for action once again with Liverpool.
She added: "Everyone's desperate to get on the pitch, that's what we want to do.
"We're all contracted to our clubs and we agreed to sign up to a summer league in the hope that we'd get the fans out.
"I think it's important that we get out there and really try to continue the momentum we've built up in those WSL games."
