In her latest column, Liverpool Ladies captain Gemma Bonner reflects on the brilliant 3-1 win at Arsenal and looks ahead to Saturday afternoon's home clash with Notts County.

It was a brilliant result for us to get the three points at Arsenal as we resumed our league campaign after the break for the FIFA Women's World Cup. After so long without a game it was always going to be a tough test for us, but the girls really dug deep and we were brilliant in the first half. In the second half we had to ride the storm a bit but we were delighted to get the three points as well as scoring some good goals along the way.

Fara Williams had a brilliant World Cup for England and it was great to have her back on the pitch against Arsenal. Fara is a special player and I'm sure if you asked any player in the WSL, they would love to have her in their team. You could see from her performance on Sunday just what an influence on the team's performance she can have. She scored a fantastic goal and deserves great credit because she gave everything she could during the game whilst still suffering a bit from jet lag.

We now face a home game with Notts County and with it being a 2pm BST kick-off on Saturday at the Select Security Stadium, hopefully we will have a big crowd cheering us on. You could see all the attendances last week in the WSL were all up and I think that's from the positive effect of the FIFA Women's World Cup. Hopefully we can get our crowd behind us and really put on a performance for them because we receive fantastic backing from them both home and away. It's important we build on our win at Arsenal.

There are not that many games in the WSL and in the first part of the season we dropped a few points. We now have to pick up as many points as we can, it's a tight league and another three points on Saturday would put us right back up there within touching distance of the top two. I actually think the break we had benefitted us because we only had two players at the World Cup and we were able to train well.

This game will mark my 50th appearance for the Club and will be a really proud day for me on a personal level. To play 50 games for the club I supported when I was younger is one of my career highlights and I hope to make many more.

We then face our first Merseyside derby of the season when we take on Everton in the Continental Cup in Widnes on Thursday night. They might not be in WSL 1 at the moment, but form always goes out of the window in these games and we never take them for granted. They will definitely be up for the game and they have a lot of young players in their squad who used to play for us, so I'm sure they'll be looking for a big performance. We'll have to be at our best to beat them.

We bid a fond farewell to Nicole Rolser recently who moved back to Germany to sign for Bayern Munich. We wish her well but we have also welcomed new signing Rosie White into our squad. Rosie has fitted in brilliantly. She made her debut during the win at Arsenal when she came on at half-time and put in a big performance for us. She is an exciting signing for us and I'm sure she will be a big player for Liverpool Ladies during the second half of the season.

I would like to end this column by sending our support to my teammate Danielle Gibbons. Danielle recently had surgery after discovering a benign brain tumour earlier this year. She is a massive inspiration to us and deserves a lot of credit for how she is dealing with her rehabilitation process. Myself and some of my teammates recently visited Danielle in hospital and it was great to see Danielle in such good spirits and we are looking forward to having her back around the squad soon.
